"State slates $5m for new Neponset park"
The Boston Globe reports that the state has
allocated $5 million to develop parkland along the Neponset River
from Mattapan Square to the Neponset River Parkway. The
project will open up the river for walking, biking, canoeing, and
more recreational activities by 2010. This is a portion of the
Neponset River Master Plan, which calls for extending the Neponset
River Greenway from Central Avenue in Milton down to Paul's Bridge (Neponset
River Parkway) at the Milton / Hyde Park border.

Spring Neponset Greenway Bicycle Tour
From Paul’s Bridge Parking Lot, Neponset Valley Pkwy. & Brush
Hill Rd., Milton
This annual spring tradition is to ride the future sections of the
greenway to the established path. The ride started at Paul’s Bridge in
Hyde Park, where the Neponset River meanders past the base of the Blue Hills,
up to Victory Road Park
in Dorchester, past the current end of the Greenway and back.
The 15-mile trip was fairly flat, and it was a casual ride that
included eight cyclists off all skill levels.
Led by BNAN (Boston
Natural Areas Network) board member and cycling enthusiast, Doug
Mink, the ride offered a chance to meet new people, learn local
history, discuss the ongoing work on the Neponset River Greenway,
and also to stop and enjoy some treats at the Phillips Candy House
in Dorchester.
