Hub On Wheels - Bike Tour / Races / Festival
City Hall Plaza, Boston
The 7th annual Hub On Wheels citywide bike ride left City Hall Plaza on Sunday, September 25th. The ride offered three different routes, 10, 30 or 50 miles, which allowed riders to experience a car-free Storrow Drive, and explore hidden pathways and historic neighborhoods, and take in grand views of the Harbor.  (The 50-mile route travels through Milton along the Neponset River Greenway)
Post-ride, the event featured a festival with food, music and vendors, and then a professional criterium race.  If you haven't checked out the event, try and do so next year.  It is a lot of fun.

DCR presented their plans for the Neponset River Greenway
Foley Senior Center, 249 River Street, Mattapan
The DCR presented their updated trail design.  It will include a gateway visitors center in Mattapan Square, pass behind the Mattapan Station, travel over the trolley line on a bridge, follow the river to Ryan Playground, cross the river to Milton, and follow the train tracks to Central Avenue.  The project is ambitious, and will also include a segment in Hyde Park and another in Dorchester, essentially connecting the Harborwalk to the Blue Hills Reservation.
For more information, please see the DCR's presentation at the state website.

Additional comments can be found in the articles by the local media:

We encourage all trail users to send their comments to the DCR.  Here is their contact information for this project:

MBTA GM: Greenway trail will include Mattapan
Officials from the MBTA, the Department of Conservation and Recreation and the State House met yesterday in an attempt to move forward with a planned expansion of the Neponset Greenway.  ...The MBTA had safety concerns about having an at-grade crossing at the Mattapan Square MBTA station as part of the planned trail extension.  ...The general manager of the MBTA, Rich Davey, said Thursday night his agency and DCR are in discussions to “work through the issues” and talking about alternatives such as a bridge.
